So the creative process that Mary took, um, from her meetings with Afiya was that she mentioned that she wanted this piece to be very involved with depicting sound. So she put a jazz band playing in the background, um, and all of the colors involved in this piece are very vibrant. They're very bright. And that adds to the sonic element of the piece.
Julia Alexander (00:34):
Afiya is from New Orleans. Um, she grew up there and that is where, um, she raised her two children up until nine months ago when she came to Greensboro. Um, and so Mary just wanted to show this family like in their hometown and where, like, what they know best and like basically like these, like, who they are and where they come from.
