Emily Neal (00:00):
This 2020 watercolor painting created by Jordan harp focuses on two individuals on a beach during a sunset. The entire painting is very light and incorporates the sunset palette. Soft pinks, blues, and yellows makeup the water and golden yellow makes up the beach. There are two individuals appearing to be a man and a woman who are walking towards the viewer from the upper left corner and are walking on the shoreline that cuts the painting down the middle. They both have tan skin with pink undertones. We only see these individuals from the mid-thigh down. Neither are wearing shoes or socks. The man is walking on the right and his feet are in the very shallow water while the woman's are just out of reach from the water. The man is wearing green pants that are rolled up to slightly above his ankle. And the woman is wearing a pink dress that falls to just above her knees.

(00:53):
The dress is loose-fitting and flows slightly behind her. The woman is also using a silver cane with a red tip the cane comes from the left where the woman's right hand would be, and then slightly to the left of the center of the painting. Directly in front of the two individuals are their shadows. These shadows show the couple's upper halves, which are cut off by the top edge of the painting. The shadows are holding hands and are slightly blurry.

In this portion, I would like to dive deeper into the artist and the piece itself. It is a very peaceful and relaxing scene that revolves around a woman named Danielle Woods and her husband. Woods is a woman with low vision who works with the Industries of the Blind, and Jordan Harp partnered with her to capture Wood's dream of walking on the beaches of Hawaii. The watercolor paint gives the feeling of an ocean breeze and the warmth of the sand, which is exactly what Harp was going for. Harp relied heavily on her experiences and interviews with Danielle Woods to create a piece that represented the energy Woods gave off, and the things that were special to their interviews. Harp mentioned how important the colors of sunsets were to her partner. And that was what really inspired the color palette of her piece.
