Ally Gilgen (00:00):
When viewing this piece, one interpretation of the work is the importance of community and independence. Community is depicted in both braille and lettering. The braille writing of the word community is depicted innovatively with sand mounds that the individuals on the beach are working together to build. Having the individuals working together represents unity and the strength of community. On the other hand, there is an underlying theme of independence. This is depicted by the ability to travel the world and visit new places. Additionally, there is a strong sense of identity and individuality in the work, as individuals are encircled by their own uniquely colored soundwaves, which closely resemble a fingerprint. The environment is fun, lively, welcoming, and warm, demonstrating the beauty of experiencing the world in new ways.
