Minerva and the University Seal
Minerva, the Roman goddess of wisdom, war, arts, schools, justice, and commerce, has served as a key figure related to UNC Greensboro since its founding. In fact, she is prominently featured on the seal of the earliest diplomas we have in University Archives. While the drawing of Minerva has changed over the years, her profile is still featured on the University Seal today. The official University Seal must be included in all of the University’s formal academic ceremonies, legal applications, diplomas and official certificates.
This iteration of the seal was produced sometime during the era in which the University was known as the Woman’s College of the University of North Carolina (1932-1963).
